Ngātiwai
Trust Board

The Ngātiwai Trust Board, based in Whangārei, is the mandated authority for Te Iwi o Ngātiwai.

About Us

The Ngātiwai Trust Board, based in Whangārei, is the mandated authority for Te Iwi o Ngātiwai, representing 14 marae across our coastal rohe – from Rākaumangamanga to Mahurangi – including our many offshore islands.

Guided by Ngā Tikitiki o Tū Te Mahurangi, we work to protect and advance Ngātiwai’s cultural, environmental, social, and economic interests, ensuring our people remain connected, strong, and thriving – now and for future generations.

About Us

Ngātiwai te Iwi

Ngātiwai traces its whakapapa to the earliest tūpuna who settled the eastern coastline and offshore islands of Te Tai Tokerau. Our whakapapa descends through Manaia I and II, uniting our hapū under a shared identity deeply connected to the moana.

Our rohe stretches from Rākaumangamanga to Mahurangi, including many offshore islands, each carrying generations of history, tikanga, and kaitiakitanga that define who we are as Tangata Moana and Tangata Whenua.

About us

Te Ākau Roa o Ngātiwai

Our people are spread across a vast rohe, including coastal and island territories rich in cultural spiritual and historical significance.

Ngatiwai is represented by 14 affliated marae, each with their own whakapapa links and deep connections to whenua, moana, and community.

Ngā Tikitiki o Tū Te Mahurangi

Ngā Tikitiki o Tū Te Mahurangi is the Ngātiwai Trust Board’s strategic blueprint for strengthening the wellbeing and prosperity of Ngātiwai.

Born from Te Anga Whakamua - a series of hui, wānanga, and kōrero with our marae, hapū, and whānau - it reflects our shared vision for the future.

Guided by our traditions and built around seven Pou, it focuses on governance, people, environment, education, culture, and a sustainable economic base to ensure Ngātiwai thrives for generations.
